PNP: Ateneo shooting won’t affect Marcos SONA security

The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that the fatal shooting that took place at the Ateneo De Manila University will not affect the security measures imposed ahead of the first State Of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Bongbong Marcos.

PNP Director for Operations Police Major General Valeriano de Leon said an investigation is now underway on how the suspect Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol managed to kill and shoot two individuals while there is a prevailing gun ban.

“We assure the public that this will not affect the security measures that we planned and are now being implemented for the SONA of our President Bongbong Marcos,” De Leon said.

PNP Officer-in-Charge Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. has also instructed Quezon City Police District chief Police Brigadier General Remus Medina to further intensify the security measures in the city.

The public can also expect that the PNP will enforce stricter checkpoints and implement gun bans in Metro Manila. The gun ban will be in effect from July 22 to July 27.
