Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte agrees with the decision of president-elect Bongbong Marcos not to attend debates ahead of the May 9 elections.
Duterte said that only television marketers only benefited from the debates at the expense of the public.

“During the campaign, we had a limited time to talk, and the next time that you are a candidate, you are invited to do that… Tama si Marcos, decline,” Duterte said.
We were only given half a minute or one minute and that’s it. You cannot even talk further… It was for show. It earns money for them at your expense sometimes,” Duterte continued.
Marcos never attended the debates mounted by the Commission on Elections and the ones organized by major television networks.
