Dubai achieves record-breaking 329MW power savings during Earth Hour 2022

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) achieved record-breaking 329 megawatts of power consumption savings during Earth Hour 2022.

This was 13% higher than the 291MW savings recorded during Earth Hour 2021, and the biggest since 2008. It amounted to a 132-ton reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

Last March 26, Dubai residents joined millions worldwide in expressing their solidarity with the global efforts to reduce climate change by turning off unnecessary lights and electric appliances between 8:30 to 9:30 pm.

The global initiative was spearheaded by DEWA across the emirate. It organized various activities at Expo 2020 Dubai, including Earth Hour Switch-Off Parade at the Expo, as well as traditional performances by the Emirati Al Harbiya band.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said: “The results achieved during Earth Hour in Dubai every year underline the key role of society members in conservation and reduction of carbon footprint.”

“The goal of Earth Hour is to encourage society members to adopt a conscious and responsible lifestyle to support national efforts to limit carbon emissions and protect natural resources to ensure their sustainability for generations to come,” he added.
