The Philippine Overseas Labor Office – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) in Abu Dhabi concluded the 2022 Marilag Awards last March 14, 2022, with a simple ceremony held at the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy.
This year’s awards, with the theme, “Parangal at Pagkilala sa mga Natatanging Kababaihang Migranteng Manggagawa”, aimed to honor women migrant workers based in the capital for their dedication, immense sacrifices outstanding achievements in the fields of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Public Service.
The event was attended by Consul General Marford M. Angeles, Consul Maria Cynthia P. Pelayo, Labor Attaché Atty. Manuel M. Dimaano and Welfare Officers Julia Fabian and Romeo Asuit, along with other Philippine Embassy and POLO-OWWA Staff and some Filipino Community Leaders.
The highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the Marilag Awards to the following awardees: Ms. Nedie B. Bansag (Leadership Category), Ms. Jaqueline Awal (Entrepreneurship Category), Ms. Judith A. Tenorio (Frontliners Category) and Ms. Mercedes M. Ilano (OWWAnian Frontliners Category).
Ms. Nedie Bansag will be representing POLO-OWWA Abu Dhabi in the National Selection to be held in Manila on March 29, 2022, as she garnered the highest score among the nominees during the selection process. Special Recognition was also given to the other nominees.
The criteria for the selection of the awardees in all categories are women who make change (40%), women who empower (30%) and women who inspire (30%) others in their organization and community.
The Marilag Awards is an institutionalized Women’s month program of POLO-OWWA that aims to highlight Filipina OFWs who promote change, empowerment, and inspiration to the society.
