Filipinos in Russia struggle in sending remittances as Moscow faces sanctions

Overseas Filipinos in Russia are bracing for the worst amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Some of them are experiencing challenges with their remittances as major banks in Moscow face sanctions imposed by the international community.

The Philippine Embassy in Russia said that the Ukraine-Russia conflict has resulted in sanctions imposed against Russian banks such as the Central Bank, VTB and Sberbank.

“Dahil dito, maaaring makaranas tayo ng kaunting isyu sa pagpapadala ng ating pera sa labas ng Russia, partikular upang sustentuhan ang ating mga pamilya,” the Philippine Embassy said.

The Embassy added that banks are now in talks with them to minimize the effect of the sanctions.

The Embassy also told Filipinos to coordinate with their banks on how to proceed with these sanctions.

“Huwag mag-atubiling kumontak sa inyong bangko. Kayo po ay kanilang kliente at may karapatan na masilbihan ng maayos, lalo na’t ito ay inyong perang pinaghirapan at pinagkatiwala sa bangko. Alamin kung paano makakapag-usap ng Ingles sa customer support,” the Embassy said.
