Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) will use drones to carry hospital supplies which is the first initiative in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The drones will be used to transport blood units and vaccines in Abu Dhabi to at least 40 stations in 2022.

The drone delivery system will operate round the clock and the unmanned aerial vehicles will also fly medicines and test samples between laboratories, pharmacies, and blood banks around the city. This is aimed to strengthen the healthcare sector’s emergency response.
DoH Chairman Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, said that they are looking forward to making Abu Dhabi the first city in the MENA to adopt and use of this technology.
The authorities will continue to deploy advanced technologies that will improve the healthcare sector and work towards establishing the emirate as a global healthcare hub.

The DoH, General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), SkyGo and Matternet will work on a joint initiative.
For this, the SkyGo and Matternet have completed phase one of testing and are now working on phase two. (AW)
