The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it cannot be claimed yet that COVID-19 cases in the Philippines have already reached its peak.
DOH Undersecretary Ma. Rosario Vergeire said after the OCTA Research Group claimed that the Philippines might have already reached the peak of COVID-19 surge in the country.

“Right now, we cannot. Based on our analysis, we are still seeing a continuous increase in the number of cases. Although we can see that the number in the increase of cases has slowed down, but still it is continuously increasing,” Vergeire said in an interview with ANC.
“When you say it is a peak, there is this highest number of cases reported then there’s a decline in the number of cases reported. But right now, we cannot see that yet in our numbers,” she added.
According to Vergeire, projections from the DOH’s group of experts indicate that the peak of the COVID-19 surge may be in October.

The health official, however, stressed that this could be avoided if the pandemic response improves.
“We are seeing that there are these different factors that led to these projections because these are just projections and if we can improve our response, we will not be able to reach that number,” Vergeire said.
