A caregiver in Dubai was sentenced to life in imprisonment after killing an elderly Emirati man.
According to court records, the victim’s wife was out for shopping in June 2020 when she received a call from the caregiver informing her that her husband has died. The elderly man was suffering from diabetes.
He was found on the ground next to the fridge but while the victim’s son was hugging him on the ground, he noticed a piece of cloth around the victim’s neck.
When he asked about what really happened to his father, the caregiver reportedly “just laughed”.
The caregiver was able to escape but he was tracked down and was arrested later on.
During interrogation, he insisted it was an act of self-defense, claiming that the victim tried to strangle him because he took too long to prepare tea.
The caregiver was sentenced to life in prison.
