Despite confirming that he is running for the Vice Presidential post in 2022, President Rodrigo Duterte said he will not run should his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte seeks the presidency.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told CNN Philippines that the President is “considering not running for vice president” to avoid the Duterte-Duterte scenario.
“He said that if Mayor Sara runs, then he is considering not running for vice president, sinabi niya,” Nograles said.
“He said na ‘yung Duterte-Duterte to him — and he’s always consistent diyan — sabi niya pag Duterte-Duterte parang, to him, he is not convinced that it should happen, at least itong 2022 national elections,” he added.
Duterte has announced that he will run for vice president in the 2022 elections.
Duterte made the confirmation during his late-night speech on Tuesday.
“Tatakbo ako ng bise presidente. Then, I will continue the crusade…Number one is insurgency. Then criminality, drugs,” the President said.
PDP-Laban was the first to announce that Duterte accepted the nomination of him running for VP.
“I may not have the power to give direction or guidance. But I can always express my views in public. For whatever it may be worth in the coming days, nasa Pilipino na yan,” Duterte added.
