Additional cash and house and lot benefits will be given to Filipino athletes who bagged medals during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced Sunday.
POC president Abraham Tolentino said an additional P3 million will be given to gold medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, P2 million for silver medalists boxers Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio, and P1 million for boxer Eumir Marcial.
Tolentino cited “some of the savings of the POC” in announcing the additional cash benefits for the athletes, the Philippine News Agency reported.
Aside from this, Tolentino said he will also give Paalam, Petecio, and Marcial a house and lot each, similar to his earlier reward to Diaz.
“The two silvers and one bronze, bibigyan ko na rin ng pabahay,” Tolentino said.
The Philippines was able to bag four medals—one gold, two silvers, and one bronze—in the Tokyo Olympics.
The event was historic for the country as this was the first time the Philippines bagged a gold medal. This was also the most successful Olympics campaign for the Philippines in the history of the sporting event.
