The first option for Vice President Leni Robredo is still to run for the presidential post in the 2022 national elections, her spokesperson said Thursday.
Atty. Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, said supporting other possible presidential bets is “not yet being considered”, appearing to refer to a remark from Senator Panfilo Lacson who said that the Vice President “resisted” a “unification formula” against the administration for the 2022 polls.

“First, VP Leni is definitely open to running for President. She has made this clear several times, and despite claims from some quarters to the contrary, her determination on this remains firm,” Gutierrez said in a statement.
“Second, supporting anyone else for President is not yet being considered. The first option is still very clearly for VP Leni to run,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Lacson claimed that he offered a “unification formula” to Robredo by putting up a common candidate who will face the administration in next year’s elections.

Lacson said that Robredo “resisted” this and added that the Vice President is “definitely” still open to running for the presidency in 2022.
Robredo, however, has yet to make a final decision on her plans in the 2022 elections but has previously expressed openness to run for the highest government post. (NM)
