BREAKING: Delta local cases spread in the Philippines, 12 new cases detected

The Department of Health announced that 12 cases of the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant which first detected in India have been discovered.

The 12 Delta variant cases were all considered as local cases.

“The indicated addresses of these local cases were as follows: Region III with six cases, CALABARZON with two cases, Region V with one case, and the National Capital Region with three cases,” the DOH sadi in a statement.

“All cases have been tagged as recovered but their outcomes are being validated by our regional and local health offices,” it added.

The country has now a total of 47 Delta variant cases.

Eight Delta variant cases who returned positive on the reswab were placed in isolation and their contacts remained in quarantine.

“With the detection of additional cases, it is crucial that we implement enhanced response immediately in the areas where these cases were detected and its contiguous LGUs as well as areas with case spikes with the premise that there may be ongoing local transmission already,” the DOH said in a statement.

The government also detected 187 cases of Alpha variant cases of the variant first detected in the United Kingdom.

179 of the cases were loca while 8 cases are still under investigation.

This brings the total Alpha variant cases to 1,668.

Meantime, 142 Beta variant cases have been detected, 134 were local cases and eight cases are currently being verified.

The country has now a total Beta variant cases are now at 1,827. This is the variant first detected in South Africa.

“With the detection of local cases with the Delta variant and other variants of concern, the public must strictly adhere to the minimum public health standards and continue to avoid enclosed spaces and mass gatherings,” the DOH added.

The DOH is also urging local government units to expand their samples for genome sequencing. (TDT)
