Abandoned baby found in backpack in South Cotabato

A man and his niece were in for a surprise of their lives when they found a discarded backpack containing the a living baby boy outside the gate of their house.

Mary Kris recalled that on June 29, her uncle’s workers were doing their daily duties and were surprised when they noticed faint noises coming from a blue backpack hanging on the house gate at Purok Aquino, Barangay San Miguel, Norala in South Cotabato.

Drawn by the cries coming from the bag, the workers were shocked to discover a living baby boy weeping inside the bag.

While people nowadays use backpacks to carry useful articles in their movements across work and travel, nobody would have ever imagined a baby being found in these circumstances on a roadside.

The workers quickly alerted the girl’s uncle, who immediately called the authorities.

The baby has been placed in the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 12. (AW)
