UAE-based overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are wishing to go home are advised by Malacañang to seek payment for their return flight tickets from their employers.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday said in a briefing that employers are obliged to shoulder OFWs expenses for plane tickets to and from the host country.

“Lahat po ng OFW, obligado ang employer magbayad ng papunta at pabalik na plane ticket,” Roque said.

Roque added that the Philippine embassy in the UAE is also arranging flights to the Philippines for the stranded Filipinos.

“Makipag-ugnayan po tayo sa manning agencies, sa ating embahada, because I’m sure they are organizing these repatriation programs,” he added.

The government extended the travel restrictions on travelers from the UAE, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Oman until June 30 in the wake of the spreading Delta coronavirus variant.

However, flights of repatriation programs either spearhead by the Philippine government or recruitment agencies would be allowed to enter the Philippines.
