LOOK: Police save Dubai’s ‘Floating Restaurant’ from sinking

A floating restaurant boat was saved from sinking into the Dubai Creek on June 4 – thanks to the speedy response of the Dubai Police, Directorate General of Civil Defence, and Dubai Municipality.

The owner sent an SOS to the Dubai Police when he noticed that his boat was slowly sinking. Dubai Police then quickly formed a joint team comprised of their own Maritime Rescue Department and Civil Defence’s Marine Fire and Rescue Department – and rushed to the spot in fully-equipped rescue boats.

Authorities from the Civil Defence staff pumped out the creek water from the vessel to reduce the weight and facilitate the salvage operation. Dubai Police divers also swam down under the boat and attached a crane rope to keep it floating. The joint efforts and precision of the rescue team ensured that the vessel remained afloat and prevented it from sinking into the Creek.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Ports Police Station urged boat-owners to ensure the safety of their vessels by regularly double-checking the equipment, electronic devices, and the body of the vessel. (AW)
