An Indian national was nabbed on arrival by Customs authorities at Dubai International Airport for carrying marijuana in his luggage.
The 32-year-old man was placed under arrest for carrying around six kilograms of marijuana when he landed in Dubai on January 9 this year.
The customs officers grew suspicious of a box in his luggage and sent it for scanning, which revealed a box containing thick material, according to an Emirati customs official.
When the customs officials decided to examine the box more thoroughly, they found six plastic items inside that were filled with some substances that were believed to be marijuana seeds.
The official said adding that the man denied ownership of the drugs and any knowledge about it.
However, laboratory tests later confirmed the substance found in the luggage as marijuana. Subsequent medical tests on the passenger showed that he had not been using the drugs.
The man later was charged with possessing drugs for sale.
The Dubai Criminal Court will announce its verdict in this case on June 22.
