One Asian worker was killed while two others were injured after an air-conditioning unit exploded in a residential building on Jamal Abdul Nasser Street, Sharjah.
The explosion occurred while the workers are doing routine maintenance work Thursday morning.
Col Yousef Obaid bin Harmoul, director of the Comprehensive Police Stations Department at Sharjah Police, said the explosion was felt by the residents of the 22-storey Al Yasmine Residential Tower Al Wahda Street.
The police, forensic experts, national ambulance as well as civil defence teams were dispatched to the scene.
The three Asian workers were taken to Al Qassimi Hospital.
The residents were evacuated while water and gas connections to the tower were shut.
Col Harmoul said initial investigations revealed that the workers were repairing the compressor of one of the six central air-conditioning units when the explosion happened.
