Non-Emiratis wishing to marry UAE citizens will have to undergo a background check for their good track record and social ideologies, according to a proposal made by a member of the Federal National Council (FNC) recently.
Ahmed Abdullah Al Shehhi had made this suggestion to the Minister of Community Development, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, during a discussion on the “Family Cohesion Policy” at During the FNC meeting on Tuesday.
Al Shehhi said it has to be ensured that the non-citizen wife or husband had not embraced destructive ideas or extremist ideologies.
He also suggested the establishment of a federal council for Emirati family affairs and strengthening the role of the family counsellors.
