A UAE worker, who had a disability after suffering a workplace injury, has been awarded a compensation of AED1.6 million (PHP21 million approx.) by the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance from a contracting company and an insurance company.
When he suffered an injury from a solid object falling on him at work, he initially filed a lawsuit demanding AED4 million in compensation for the physical and psychological damages that the incident caused him, according to Emarat Al Youm.
The case lodged implicated the company and the engineer in charge of managing the site and the court found that they were liable for violating laws related to providing necessary protection for workers.
Meanwhile, the contracting company had demanded that the insurance company also should pay the compensation determined by the court.
However, the insurance company denied responsibility for this amount by claiming that it had paid the maximum amount agreed upon in the contract with the company.
The court ordered the worker’s employer to pay him AED1.6 million in compensation, and the insurance company to pay the contracting company half of the compensation amount decided in the lawsuit.
