President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the administering Covid-19 vaccines of Pfizer-BioNTech to the country’s indigent population, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Thursday.
Roque explained that the move is in consonance with the conditions of the vaccine-sharing facility COVAX.
He furthered that vaccines donated by the World Health Organization-led initiative aims to give protection to healthcare workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), those with comorbidities (A3), and the indigent population (A5).
Roque added that Pfizer jabs will be distributed in barangays instead of malls.
“The president added that Pfizer vaccines should not be administered in malls, but in vaccination sites in barangays where vaccine take-up is low,” the palace spokesperson said.
It is not yet clear whether the rule applies to succeeding batches of Pfizer doses that will arrive in the country.
