At least 348 vials of Coronavac vaccine made by Chinese company Sinovac had been left in an unplugged fridge.
In an Inquirer report, the vaccine vials have been rendered unfit for human use, citing a statement from the Cotabato provincial office.
Philbert Malaluan, Cotabato provincial board member and spokesperson of the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), said that the vaccines have been damaged.
The vaccines were reportedly stored in the town of Makilala in Cotabato.
A brownout occurred in the town at 12:30 p.m. last Friday (May 7) and health officers decided to store it in a freezer connected to a generator.
When the electricity came back two hours after, “Nobody noticed that the freezer was not switched on,” said Lito Cañedo, Makilala IATF spokesperson.
“Saturday and Sunday were no-work days. It was only in the morning of Monday, May 10, that health personnel discovered,” Cañedo said.
