India hit another record high of COVID-19 daily deaths after its health ministry logged 4,187 new fatalities in the last 24 hours.
The country’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse after a second wave of infections pushed the country’s total coronavirus cases near 22 million.
India also recorded 401,078 new COVID-19 infections pushing the country’s total to 21.9 million.

Data from the health ministry showed that India’s COVID-19 death toll stood at 238,720.
Experts however said the deaths could possibly higher while local media suggests that the death rate is being underreported.
It is projected that second wave of COVID-19 will peak by the end of May.
Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose a national lockdown to prevent a “devastating” situation for India and other countries.

Gandhi told the prime minister that his government’s lack of a clear and coherent COVID-19 and vaccination strategy … has placed India in a highly dangerous position.”
The Indian government is under immense pressure to act as COVID-19 deaths continued to surge.
Several states already imposed stricter movement restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. (RA)
