Mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) are recommending the implementation of a ‘flexible’ MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine).
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said in an interview on GMA News that local chief executives had a thorough discussion on current quarantine protocols.
“Ang napagkasunduan ng mga alkalde ay parang flexible MECQ. Ang tawag lang dito MECQ with additional business openings,” he said.
Abalos said that the curfew hours have been adjusted starting May from 10PM to 4AM.
Under ECQ, only essential services are allowed to operate. The MECQ allowed more businesses to run in order to boost the economy.
A “flexible MECQ” on the other hand will consider two factors: the type of business that would be allowed to operate and the implementation of border control.
President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce the new quarantine classification on Wednesday.
