Dubai has announced a 10-day mourning period following the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance.
During this period, all flags in Dubai will be flown at half-mast.
A three-day suspension will also be in place across all Dubai government offices will be suspended starting March 25, Thursday.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid was born on December 25, 1945, and was the second son of the late ruler, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai stated that his brother was his support and companion through the years.
“We belong to God and to Him we shall return … May God have mercy on you, my brother, my support and my companion.” tweeted His Highness.
