The road widening project on Dubai-Al Ain Road has now reached a completion rate of 60%.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this AED2 billion improvement project will ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance the links with key roads in the Emirate namely Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, and the Emirates Road.
Now with this improvement, the road’s capacity has increased from 6,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour per direction. It will also cut travel time from Bu Kadra junction to Emirates Road junction from 16 minutes to 8 minutes during peak hours.
RTA said this project will benefit 1.5 million people and will eliminate tailbacks that used to extend two kilometers. It will also serve the existing and future development projects on both sides of the Dubai-Al Ain road.
The improvement of this road project extends 17 kilometers from the intersections of the Emirates Road to the intersection of Bu Kadra with Ras Al Khor. It covers the widening of the road from three to six lanes and constructing service roads on both sides to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow.
“The RTA, under the follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, continues to work on vital projects that aims to improve the quality of life in the city and achieve happiness for the community while also strengthening Dubai’s position amongst the world’s safest cities in traffic safety,” said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.
