India’s health ministry on Tuesday has announced that six travellers from the United Kingdom have tested positive for the new strain of COVID-19, which was feared by experts to be more contagious.
The cases have been diagnosed from the ongoing laboratory tests being conducted on some 114 people who tested positive for COVID-19, according to Reuters report. All of them arrived from Britain since late November.
The health ministry said it is tracking down all fellow passengers of the six people.
“Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine,” the ministry said.
With more than 10.2 million COVID-19 cases, India ranks second in terms of the highest case load in the world, behind only the United States.
