Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that Malacañang will talk to the Department of Transportation to consider banning travellers from the United Kingdom amid a new coronavirus strain.
“Kakalampagin po natin ang DOTr because that’s within their jurisdiction,” said Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
“Sa ngayon naman po, basta sumunod po sa ating protocol bago lumabas ang PCR test, tingin ko, safe naman po tayo. Pero tama kayo, panahon na para ikunsidera iyang temporary travel ban sa UK,” he added.
Different countries have started imposing a ban to British travellers after a new coronavirus strain was detected in the country.
UK health officials said that the new coronavirus strain is ‘out of control’ leading to high number of infections.
A WHO spokeswoman told AFP that countries need to exert more efforts to control the pandemic across Europe.
European countries like Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and the Netherlands only announced the suspension of air links, and in some cases rail and ferry links with Britain.
The Department of Health on the other hand sees no reason to implement a ban, yet saying travel restrictions are already in place. (TDT)
