PLDT to boost internet connectivity in PH with more fiber lines across country

PLDT has announced that it will provide more fiber lines and provide 500,000 more ports in three to six months to fulfill the country’s needs to provide high-speed internet.

PLDT Chief Revenue Officer Alfredo Panlilio stated that this is the internet company’s response to provide better connectivity for many households who now reliable internet services especially during the pandemic brought about by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Broadband connectivity is more important than ever, particularly in these pandemic times when more people are directed to work and study from home. That’s why PLDT is ramping up its capabilities to be able to serve more Filipinos nationwide,” said Panlilio.

The internet company’s statement also follows after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to close networks by December if connectivity remains unreliable before the end of 2020.

“Kindly improve the services before December. Better have that line cleared. If you are not ready to improve, I might just as well close all of you and we revert back to the line telephone at kukunin ko yan, expropriate ko sa gobyerno,” said President Duterte during his fifth State of the Nation Address in 2020.

Menardo Jimenez Jr., PLDT senior vice president for PLDT Home, said the company’s network service teams are now more capable of adapting to the challenges brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic-related restrictions.

“PLDT’s network service teams have worked out how to operate under pandemic conditions and have been able to steadily ramp up their installation capacity,” Jimenez said.

He noted that the pandemic has resulted in a “notable” spike of service upgrade and new installation requests.

The President assured the public that he will spend his remaining two years in office to improve the telecommunications services in the country.

“You give us half-cooked transactions, lousy service tapos ang tao nagbabayad. Tell us now if you cannot improve on it…I have 2 years, the next two years will be spent improving the telecommunications in this country without you,” warned President Duterte.
