Various Filipinos who have visited the opening of Manila Bay’s ‘white sand’ beach have seemingly failed to observe social distancing as well as wear face shields, Super Radyo dzBB reported.

Photos that circulated on social media showed people huddling close together in line to get a glimpse of the newly enhanced beach, despite constant reminders by personnel on site to observe physical distancing.

The radio reported that while the visitors wore masks, a lot of them did not don face shield—with organisers defending them and saying it was not required in open public spaces.

In mid-August, the government has mandated the use of both face shields and face masks in public transportation and offices, as well as enclosed spaces like malls.
