Bahrain launches video call services for prisoners

Bahrain has launched video call services for inmates and their families following the suspension of visitation as a precautionary measure against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.
The director general of the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centers said that the initiative is to help inmates connect with their loved ones amid the social distancing measures implemented. He added that they will also provide a comprehensive healthcare for prisoners, starting with the testing of 1,486 of them for COVID-19—the results of which tested negative.

The buildings and facilities of the centers are now being disinfected daily to ensure the safety of inmates. In addition, prisoners are regularly provided with hygiene tools and medical care to safeguard their wellbeing.
Another measure that the authorities are taking, according to the director general, is temperature scanning of the inmates and anyone entering the facility.
