In celebration of World Teacher’s Day, The Filipino Times reached out to several overseas Filipino teachers who have expressed their gratitude to the UAE for providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and be appreciated in their commitment to impart knowledge to the next generation.
Here are their words of gratitude as OFWs in their second home that has provided them with opportunities for growth and development – the UAE.
“The UAE provides vast opportunities for Filipino Teachers here in the Emirates. They provide very good benefits and sufficient salary to support the need of the family. They also provide a very good programme that sustain the training of the teachers,” – Alvin Mangoma, 4 years in Al Ain“The UAE has absolutely given such high importance to the role teachers play in nation building. We, teachers, are always encouraged to update ourselves through different exams pertaining to education in order to give our best self always to the students. The country has given so much trust to Filipino teachers for their exemplary track record of being caring, responsible and excellent second parents to the students they are teaching. As a music teacher to female UAE nationals, I enjoy free housing, educational allowance, premium insurance and reasonable salary for my family. The UAE has been so gracious to us Filipinos,” – Marc Misael Gamil, 6 years in Al Ain“The UAE’s Ministry of education provides a program where us teachers are their priority. They conduct workshops to improve teachers’ sense of recognition and to promote their positive behavior as role models for students,” – Rose Alvarado, 7 years in Dubai” UAE gives lot’s of trainings to the teacher’s to improve and grow. improved the curriculum vitae and continuing professional development,” – Maria Cristina Intia, 12 years in Dubai“As a Filipino Junior Educator or Teaching Assistant the UAE helps us to grow by providing us a professional trainings,guidance and coaching that we can apply in our teaching professions to helps us to reach our higher goals,” – Marissa Mangoltong, 6 years in Dubai” In general, the UAE has provided all the ways to fulfill its service to their citizens and residents. And because of that, resources are available to the students: Books, project materials, internet/technologies and teachers from different nations. What the government provides for the people really has a great help especially for Teachers. Filipino teachers here I believe enjoy their facilities and ease as they can mostly focus their teaching. Education agencies of the government provide training to further enhance all educators skills. May Allah bless this country!,” – Mark del Monte Regenio – Tenor, 13 years in Dubai“UAE provides diverse and better career opportunities for teachers than in our homeland. It equips us with necessary skills by providing CPD (continuous professional development) courses readily available for teachers. It gives us opportunity to teach in schools with 21st century classrooms and facilities. It trains us to be creative and flexible. As a melting pot, it provides us a chance to teach in different cultures. It amazes me how people are so accepting of each other’s differences. UAE helps us build your own life abroad. It helps one grow not just professionally but as a person too,” – Sherry Lou Gogolin, 3 years in Dubai“In Aldar Education in UAE, we teachers are given free trainings for our professional growth and development. We are encouraged to enrol in online classes that both our students and ourselves benefit from,” – Mary Ann Dela Cruz-Mendoza, 9 years in Abu Dhabi“The UAE supports its Filipino teachers to grow through the country’s ministry of education. It ensures that teachers are continuously developing their professional growth to provide a holistic and competent learning experience to students. The government also provides outside seminars, programs and activities where teachers as well as students can learn. Examples that I remember were a Science fair field trip, radio studio workshop, educational trip to Louvre museum and more. We also receive talks from the community police that widen our knowledge on school safety and the local community,” – Ken Harris T. Dimaano, 7 Years in Abu Dhabi“As a Filipino educator, the UAE values the importance of education by providing trainings, webinars, seminars and teaching licenses which will enable us to confidently grow and be globally competitive in the education sector. Opening doors to Filipino educators has made a huge impact to the Filipino teachers community to stay and educate young minds here in UAE,” – Leslie Marie S. Bucad, 1 year in Abu Dhabi“As a teacher teaching outside our home country, it has been a challenging yet fruitful journey. Before going here in UAE, I have this fear of not being capable of handling my profession in a foreign land but the UAE always give opportunities and experiences that will help us grow personally and professionally. UAE, MOE and ADEK in particular, always provide trainings and workshops that enable teachers to update and hone our skills to be able to cater to the needs of our students. They allow Filipinos to impart our knowledge and culture to UAE. They accept and appreciate Filipinos in all aspect they allow Filipinos teachers to be part of their nation building, despite of huge differences in terms of the culture and traditions, and at the same time Filipinos learned from UAE culture as well,” – Crissia Ann Reyes, 1 year in Abu Dhabi“The opportunity to live and work in the UAE is already a privilege given to Filipinos. The First World experience is something that Filipino teachers enjoy and we are blessed with a tolerant and safe country,” – James So, Jr., 4 years in Abu DhabiThe Ministry is constantly providing us with free trainings and workshops that would enhance our knowledge and skills to help our students better. – Zinat Ponce, 16 years in UAE, Ras Al KhaimahThe UAE empowers teachers by providing various CPD that enables the new teachers in the UAE to adapt into its education culture. By attending CPD the teachers will have additional qualifications which count as they pursue promotion in their career. – Kristine Navalta, 8 years, Dubai
Teachers are at the heart of education and plays a crucial role in laying the foundation for students to build their professional and promising futures. WIth the current times teachers are constantly having to adopt new skills, knowledge and the ever-changing technological advances in the different methods of teaching styles to ensure the students understand the valuable life lessons being taught to them. The UAE supports all teachers through these advancements. As a Filipino teacher here in the UAE, I would say through my experiences that the UAE government treats us equal and fair. They give their full trust and support to us in terms of educating the young minds and to be part of their lives for them to fulfill their goals and dreams so they can navigate through the ever-transforming world we live in. – Janette Bunag Pascual, 9yrs, Abu Dhabi
