A teacher in Cagayan de Oro has shared a mother’s excuse letter for her son for being absent because they haven’t eaten anything for three days.
Jen Dullente of Bugo National High School said that the letter has reminded her about the main reason why she wanted to become a teacher.
“To lend a hand to students like them and make them perceive that poverty is not a wall to break but an opportunity to climb and see what lies behind,” Dullente said on her Facebook post.
She added that receiving the letter served as an eye opener for her to become more considerate of her students’ situation.
“It just slaps me na dapat I should be thankful kasi hindi natin alam na mas may nangangailangan pa kaysa sa atin,” Dullente explained.
“Nasira kasi yung sikad na pinagda-drivan ng tatay niya kaya wala po silang pangkain on those days,” she also said.
The teacher added they are now talking with school officials on how they can help the student.
