OFW refuses to buy branded bag as ‘pasalubong’, gets blocked

For some Filipinos, it has become a habit to shop in advance for gifts to family members and close friends.

However, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Cagayan de Oro shared how disappointed she was when her friend for eight years blocked her after she refused to give her a branded luxury bag.

Lynne Cherrie’s post became viral after she posted it last Thursday, Oct. 3.

Lynne shared screenshots of her conversation with her friend when she asked her to pick a bag from the set of photos she sent her.

Lynne’s friend, instead, asked her to buy her a branded Gucci or MK bag.

She even asked Lynne that if she can’t buy her the said luxury bag, she should give up one of her bags from her collection.

Lynne explained that she can’t easily give it up since most of those bags she owned were also gifts.

Unable to get what she wanted, Lynne shared in her post that her friend blocked her.

“Dili gyud maghubag akong kidney og mag-F.O. (friendship over) ta ay!” Lynne wrote at the start of her post.

(My kidney won’t swell if our friendship is over!)

“Kung issue sa imo akong ka HANGOL sa mga bags nga collection nku, well gihago-an ko pod na oii! Kung gusto kag MK or Gucci hala panarbaho oii, aron mapalit nimu na. Wala mn gali koi Gucci nya ikaw na nuon akong palitan? Wa ka kuyapi??”

(If it’s an issue to you that I do not share my collection of bags, it’s my right since I worked hard for it! If you want to own an MK or Gucci, work hard so you could buy one. I don’t even own a Gucci bag and do you think I would buy one for you? Are you crazy?)

Lynne then went on and reminded her friend that OFWs don’t get money “by merely picking it anywhere or even by pooping”.

She also challenged her friend to try and work abroad as an OFW to know how hard and challenging life is for them.

Lynne’s post has been shared 7,792 times on Facebook.
