Overseas Filipino workers in the UAE always look forward to going home in the Philippines. And what comes with their homecoming is the fact that many of their family and friends back home are expecting a little something from the UAE.
However, when the budget’s a bit tight or when you have forgotten to buy certain items at the store, you can always make a quick stop at Duty Free and grab some items, maybe for a cheaper amount.
Local goods
If there is one perfect pasalubong to bring home to your family and friends in the Philippines, it would definitely be something that is only found in that country you have visited. Whether it may be food or a piece of souvenir, you can buy those items at the airport and what’s best is that they come cheap.
Some of the local delicacies that you can buy at the Dubai International Airport that you can bring home to your family in the Philippines are camel milk chocolate and dried dates.
Aside from local goods, some chocolate brands, which many of your family members in the Philippines look forward to, are also sold for a cheaper price at some airport terminals.
Cosmetics
According to BBC Capital, some airports would sell most makeup and skincare products with a 50 percent discount compared to its retail prices on local stores.
Writer Karina Martinez-Carter wrote in an article published on Map Happy that MAC stations inside the airports she has visited would often be half-empty suggesting that a lot of people have bought their products.
Luxury goods
eCompareMo.com noted that perfumes, watches, and sunglasses from known brands like Chanel, Cartier, and Ray-Ban are also often sold for cheaper prices at airports compared to local stores. The same source added that other luxury brands would give discounts on some of their items, but one way to find out where the good deals are is to research beforehand.
