A father in Al Ain married off his 15-year-old daughter to his 40-year-old friend after the “man promised to pay a huge dowry to the family.”
According to reports, the father coerced his teenage daughter against her will to get married to the 40-year-old man. Court documents stated that the father forced his daughter to leave school and took her to a neighboring Gulf nation, where she married the 40-year-old man.
The child’s mother was against the father’s decision and wanted her child to continue schooling, but the father carried out his decision.
After the teenage daughter’s wedding to the 40-year-old man, fights started looming in their marriage. The daughter returned home to her family on several occasions, claiming that the 40-year-old man was mistreating her.
The father reportedly spoke to his son-in-law to treat his daughter kindly after the mistreating incidents. However, one day, a fight between the wedded couple turned extremely bad that the 40-year-old man dropped his wife to her parent’s house.
The 40-year-old later found out that his wife was pregnant and tried to get her back, but the teenager’s parents refused.
The father, who sold off her daughter, went to the personal status court in Al Ain and asked that the couple be separated. The court approved the couple’s divorce, however, the father was prosecuted and referred to the criminal court for marrying off a minor.
