Around Php 600 million worth of fake beauty products were found by the Bureau of Customs (BoC) during their inspections in the Tondo and Binondo areas in Manila.
In a report from ABS-CBN news, BoC agents saw tons of soaps, perfumes, and whitening lotions in boxes along with some anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal creams.
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña warns that these products haven’t gone through proper quality control and might pose serious health risks. “Hindi rin dumaan sa quality control. These products might contain poisonous chemicals na hindi naman nila ini-indicate sa package,” said Lapeña during a press conference held at the warehouse in Tondo.
The Customs Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) performed the inspections after a “Letter of Authority” was issued by the Customs chief to inspect and check the warehouses located at Dona Maria Lim Building in Ilang-Ilang St. in Binondo and at Building 1336, Antonio Rivera St. in Tondo for alleged violations of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
“We are now coordinating with other brand owners to identify whether their products found in both warehouses are counterfeit,” Lapeña said.
