A British national died in a fall while climbing the highest peak in the UAE with his friend on Tuesday evening.
Alex Underhill, 25, was hiking up Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah when reportedly slipped and fell.
His companion, George Crewe, was leading the hike and when he turned around, Underhill was gone.
Crewe reported the unfortunate incident to the Ras Al Khaimah Police, which sent a helicopter to recover the victim’s body.
Underhill’s body was taken to Saqr Hospital in RAK to determine the cause of death.
“The heat in this region is extreme by any measure and can be deadly at any time of year. A very simple recommendation for hiking in the summer months of June, July, or August is not to do it at all,” Amy Subaey, director of UAE Trekkers said as quoted by The National.
The range of mountains running through Ras Al Khaimah, where it peaks at Jebel Jais is a popular destination for trekkers from the UK.
