It is no secret that the President and Vice President have not necessarily been in a great working relationship. Part of the reason is because of the their different political party and maybe even differences in how the country should be run.
However, latest news indicate that the two might already be working to mend their strained relationship starting with President Rodrigo Duterte inviting Vice President Leni Robredo and her family to Malacanang for a dinner.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella confirmed that Duterte extended the invitation to Robredo during the graduation ceremony of the Philippine National Police Academy last Friday.
“The President and the Vice President were engaged in conversation during the commencement exercises of the Philippine National Police Academy yesterday (Friday). There, PRRD invited VP Leni and her children to dinner together with his family,” Abella revealed.
This is the first time that the country’s two highest ranking officials crossed paths again following their stints in PMA’s graduation rites earlier this month.
It’s also the first time that Duterte and Robredo met following the heating destabilization plot against the former allegedly organized by the Liberal Party, which is the latter’s political party.
Amidst all of this, the President himself assured the public that he and Robredo were able to privately talk about the rumored destabilization plots, as well as, their respective impeachment raps.
“Yes, ganito yan she mention on destab destab. Sabi niya wala ako niyan. Sabi ko Leni I believe you. Left and right kasi intriga ako wala ako kasali dyan sa impeachment, impeachment,” Duterte told a handful of reporters in Bukidnon over the weekend.
Duterte also recalled that time earlier this week when he had come to the defense of Robredo when he arrived in the country from his diplomatic trips to Thailand and Myanmar. He, then, prodded his allies to drop the threat of impeaching the VP as she was elected fair and square last election and urged everyone to move on from these scandals. Around the same time, Robredo, on the other hand, backed up Duterte’s sentiments adding that people should be more focused on addressing the country’s issues instead of politicizing everything.
Unfortunately, Abella said that he does not know the specifics of the invitation that Duterte has extended to Robredo or if the VP accepted the request. Nevertheless, if this gathering will eventually take place, more information regarding it will come to light.
