The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 has breached the P1.069 billion in terms of gross ticket sales.

The 49th edition of the film festival broke the record of the 2018 MMFF which earned around P1.061 billion.

“This is despite the fact na noong 2018, almost 1,200 cinemas po ang open. This year po, nasa 800 lamang yung sinehan natin. Marami pa pong sara,” said MMDA Acting Chairman and concurrent MMFF ExeComm Chairman Atty. Don Artes in a press briefing.

“Siguro po masasabi natin na yung success po ng 2023 MMFF ay due to the quality of the films we offered,” he added.

Artes said that despite having 10 film entries, all of these films are worth watching.

“At yun pong observation namin dito, before ang bulk po ng nanonood ay CDE market. Ngayon po halos na-cover natin pati yung nga A, B, and C,” Artes said.

“In fact, parang mas marami nga po yung segment ng market na nanood from A, B and C dahil sa mga comments po ay nakita naming maraming nanood ng dalawa, tatlo o mas marami pa na pelikula,” the chairman added.

Artes urges filmmakers to produce more quality films ahead of the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Ine-encourage din po namin yung mga producers na mag-produce ng mas magaganda pang pelikula para sa 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, which is our 50th edition,” he said.
