Pope Francis is set to attend the critical COP28 climate conference in Dubai, starting on November 30. This marks the first time a Pope will attend a COP meeting in person since the process began in 1995. The Pope plans to spend three days in Dubai, departing on December 1.
Pope Francis, who has been a vocal advocate for environmental protection during his papacy, recently published an update on his thesis on human-induced climate change, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. In his new document, “Laudate Deum” (Praise to God), he called for global solidarity to address the climate crisis and move away from fossil fuels to clean energy sources like wind and solar.
The Pope’s decision to attend the COP28 talks in Dubai reflects his commitment to climate action and his belief that these discussions can lead to meaningful change. He has previously met with Sultan Al Jaber, the president-designate of COP28, to discuss the importance of addressing climate issues.
This trip to Dubai will be the 45th overseas visit for Pope Francis, and it comes as he acknowledges the need to slow down due to recent health issues, including a hernia operation and knee pain.
