Dubai achieves top rankings in recent Traffic Index

Dubai has achieved remarkable rankings in the 2022 traffic index report by TomTom, a global company specializing in tracking congestion and traffic trends. Out of 390 cities across 56 countries worldwide, Dubai stood out in terms of traffic flow, showcasing its commitment to efficient road networks. TomTom is also a partner of RoadSafetyUAE in their corporate social responsibility efforts.

According to the report, Dubai outperformed major cities like Los Angeles, Montreal, Sydney, Berlin, Rome, and Milan in the Central Business District (CBD). Traveling 10 km in Dubai’s CBD takes an average of 12 minutes, while other cities averaged 21 minutes. Almere in the Netherlands was the best-performing city, with 8 minutes per 10 km, while London ranked lowest with 36 minutes.

In the urban area, Dubai’s performance was equally impressive, recording a time of 9 minutes per 10 km with an average speed of 59 km/h. The top-performing city, Greensboro in the US, achieved 7 minutes and 40 seconds per 10 km with an average speed of 74 km/h. On the other hand, Bogota in Colombia ranked lowest with 24 minutes per 10 km and an average speed of 19 km/h.

Meanwhile, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), expressed gratitude for Dubai’s remarkable results.

“These accomplishments stem from the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, to elevate the infrastructure of Dubai’s road and transportation network, under the ultimate goal of making Dubai the best city for living on earth,” Al Tayer said in a statement.
