The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured its readiness for the upcoming 19th Edition of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023 that will be hosted by the country on August 25 to September 10.
In a statement released on Friday, the PNP noted that it will implement its tried and tested major events security framework that was implemented in successful international events including the 2015 APEC Summit, 2015 Papal Visit, 2017 ASEAN Summit and the 2020 Miss Universe Pageant.
“The PNP is fully committed to the success of this prestigious international event. We are working closely with our partner agencies to deliver a secure and memorable experience for everyone involved,” PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said.
A Security Task Force has been created that will serve as the primary body responsible for conducting security operations and other related public safety services during the basketball event. It will coordinate with various organizations, such as the Philippine Sports Commission, FBWC 2023 LOC, SBP, LGUs, stakeholders, and other concerned agencies.
Meanwhile, Chief of Public Information Office, PBGEN Redrico Maranan, emphasized the importance of collaboration and vigilance during the event.
“The 19th FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 presents an exciting opportunity for our country to showcase its hospitality and love for sports. As the head spokesperson for the STF FBWC 2023, I assure everyone that we are committed to providing timely and accurate information regarding the security measures implemented. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all,” Maranan stated.
The 19th Edition of FIBA’s flagship event will be hosted across three nations in Asia: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The opening ceremony and opening games between Angola vs Italy and Philippines vs Dominican Republic will be held at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Sta Maria, Bulacan.
Moreover, the PNP urged the public to support their efforts and remain vigilant throughout the duration of the 19th FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
