Man offering fake jobs in Dubai faces jail time, fined AED 50,000

A 25-year-old man faces three months in jail and a fine of AED 50,000 for swindling five workers.

According to the Dubai Misdemeanours Court ruling, the Asian man who had reportedly promised the Arab victims each of them would be hired as a security guard will be deported after serving the jail term.

In August 2022, five Arab workers had reported that they were defrauded by an Asian company owner, who told them that there were job vacancies as security guards in a company he owned, which specialised in providing security guards and cleaners to other institutions, local media reports said.

The victims, who reportedly did not know each other, received a call from the suspect informing them about the vacancies for AED 2,000 per month, provided that each one pays Dhs10,000 for the one contract.

The suspect allegedly took the AED 50,000 from them after he signed the labor contracts and asked them to wait until getting a security guard’s licence, but he disappeared and stopped contacting them. The suspect was arrested at the Dubai International Airport.
