India reported 271,202 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, its highest daily count in eight months, taking its total tally to 37.12 million, the federal health ministry said on Sunday.
Deaths from COVID-19 rose by 314 to 486,066, Reuters quoted the ministry as saying.

The active caseload in the country is 1,550,377, or 4.18 percent. The weekly positivity rate is 13.69 percent, while the daily positivity rate is 16.28%.
With 138,331 recoveries recorded in the previous 24 hours, the recovery rate is now at 94.51 percent, bringing the total number of persons who have recovered from the virus to 35,085,721.
India’s nationwide immunization campaign has resulted in the administration of 156.76 crore vaccine doses. So far, 70.24 crore tests have been performed across the country. According to the government, 1,665,404 of these were completed in the last 24 hours.
