NEDA: Online registration for National ID to start on April 30

Filipinos can soon apply for the country’s National ID through an online system starting April 30.

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Karl Chua said they are set to launch an online portal in the coming days which will collect demographic data of those who will apply for the national ID.

Applicants, however, must still personally go to their chosen registration sites for biometrics and for them to open their bank accounts.

The NEDA chief believes that the national ID system can also help in fast-tracking the government’s vaccination program and distribution of aids when necessary.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the national ID law in 2018 and has received a 3.52 billion peso budget this year to register 20 million Filipinos.

The roll-out of the national ID has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
