The Dubai Municipality ordered the closure of eight shisha cafes and fined 133 others for violations of the country’s COVID-19 preventive measures.
Violations include failure to ensure proper physical distancing, where shops allowed crowds without distance between each customer’s tables. Some shops were also found with multiple-use pipes instead of disposable ones and other shops were found to be sharing shisha between customers.
Other violations saw several of these cafes allow individuals under 18 at smoking areas and use of expired tobacco products.

Dubai allowed the reopening of shisha cafes as of July 18 and prepared strict rules and regulations among shisha owners for compliance to assure that the public is safe from any local transmissions for the coronavirus.
