A netizen in Dubai who posted a video of him on TikTok blowing his nose on a Dh500 note was arrested by the Dubai Police.
The authorities detained the Indian resident over insulting the country’s national currency, and charged him with cyber crime violations—which has a penalty of up to Dhs1 million.
The Dubai Police has released his photo on social media as a warning to others not to commit offenses that insult the UAE or its reputation.
The video—which has since been deleted—showed the user with piles of Dhs500 notes, and grabs one of them as he goes to sneeze, and then drops it on the floor.
Another TikTok user, who was angry about the video, commented that he has sent a complaint to the Dubai Police about his clip.
