A total of 23,000 ducks and chickens in Vietnam’s central Thanh Hoa province was culled after a reported outbreak of the H5N6 bird flu virus in two districts.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the outbreak has been detected in 10 households in three communes of Nong Cong and Quang Xuong districts.

This is the first two reported districts affected this year, says the provincial Department of Livestock and Animal Health.
Disinfection in surruounding areas and intensified vaccination among fowls in the district were being implemented by relevant local agencies there.

The first outbreak this year took place last Feb. 3 involving nine households of Nong Cong district. There were 19,800 poultries that were culled.
While a household in Quang Xuong district began last Feb. 4 with over 3,300 poultries culled.
Meanwhile in China, 1,840 birds had died in the farm of 2,497 on Sunday in a poultry farm in southwestern Sichuan province.
China’s agriculture ministry, in a separate report by Reuters, said this avian flu was detected from a poultry farm after four cases were found in swans this year.
