Seven dead, 21 injured in West Texas shooting spree

A man in his 30s was killed in a police shootout after being responsible for the death of seven civilians as well as injuring 21 others in West Texas.

Police said that the gunman randomly fired shots from his vehicle and then from a hijacked mail truck, as per reports from CNN.

He was later killed in a shootout with police in a movie theater parking lot, authorities said Saturday.

The gunman was a white male in his 30s. Authorities did not provide the gunman’s identities and possible motive.

The shooting spree began about 3:13 p.m. CT (4:13 p.m. ET), according to the police.

Police tried to flag down the vehicle driven by the gunman, but he fired several shots toward the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, leaving one wounded.

The driver drove toward Odessa and shot another person. He drove to the city and shot more persons, after which he abandoned his vehicle, commandeered a mail truck and started shooting more people.

The shooter then drove toward the Cinergy movie theater where he was eventually killed by police after an exchange of gunfire.
