The Department of Health (DOH) in Davao is investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who died from a suspected case of meningococcemia.
The management of Brokenshire Hospital in Davao City has already denied reports circulating on social media that there is a “meningococcemia outbreak”.
In a Facebook post through their Brokenshire Integrated Health Ministries, Inc., they said that the patient confined in their hospital only exhibited signs and symptoms similar to the case definition of the disease.
“The collected specimen has been sent out to the microbiologist for confirmation. Infection Control protocols were immediately instituted,” the hospital said in a statement.
Their Emergency Room (ER) and the hospital itself is cleared by the Infection Control Committee. It is also operating normally.
In a separate report by Sunstar Davao, DOH has given Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to close contacts of the patient, including the family members and ER staff who closely attended to the patient.
PEP was also given to pupils at the Leap of Faith Learning Center, Inc., the pre-school where the deceased was studying.
DOH Davao has warned the public not to spread unverified information regarding meningococcemia.
